Equality and Diversity

Ayrshire College is in the business of making a positive difference to the lives and experiences of it's students and staff.

We are fully committed to the wellbeing and inclusion of our students and staff by placing equality and diversity at the heart of everything we do.  The value placed on equality, diversity and inclusion are more than words and instead, are a way of being here at Ayrshire College.

We have a clear plan in place to enable our students and staff to learn, work and develop in a safe and inclusive place.

Our campuses are registered as Keep Safe spaces.  Our campuses are also Third-Party Reporting centres.

We are working towards achieving the LGBT Youth Scotland Foundations Charter Mark.  The College has achieved several accreditations and related including Disability Confident Employer and has in place a Student Mental Health Agreement.

Equality Outcomes 2021-2025

One way to describe equality outcomes is, they are the means in which an identified, evidenced equality need is being addressed.  In April 2021, the College made it clear, it would use its new set of equality outcomes to tackle the most significant and persistent inequalities being experienced and that it would take the opportunity over the next four years to make a difference to the lives and experiences of those most effected by inequality on the basis of their protected characteristic(s).

By April 2025, the College will be a place of learning and working where:

Equality Outcome 1

Students and staff with protected characteristics most likely to experience hate, report that they feel safe while engaged in study or work

Equality Outcome 2

Curriculum areas with courses that have a male or female student gender imbalance greater than a 75:25 ratio have improved

Equality Outcome 3

The rates of disclosure, retention and attainment of male students with a mental health condition have improved

Equality Outcome 4

The recruitment and disclosure rates of staff with a disability have improved

Mainstreaming and Equality Outcome Reports

The College is legally obliged under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) to demonstrate it is mainstreaming equality throughout its functions, processes, and activities and that is setting and fulfilling Equality Outcomes every four years.  The PSED was created under Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010.
