Ayr Graduation 2019: Student of the Year for Engineering and Science

Thomas Corsan, HNC Aircraft Engineering
When I left school, I decided to study a music course and when I finished, I found I was looking for a different direction in my career. That’s when I discovered the aeronautical engineering course at Ayrshire College, so I decided to give it a go.
I hadn’t thought about subjects such as maths and physics in a number of years, so the prospect of moving back into this area of study was quite daunting to begin with.
However, Ayrshire College has been a very welcoming environment to study, with excellent staff, and my experience at the college has been nothing short of incredible.
The course involved a wide range of subjects covering different areas of aircraft engineering theory with some practical elements. I especially enjoyed learning maths and aerodynamics.
As well as gaining practical skills in the college workshops and report writing skills, I have become much more comfortable working with others too. In fact, the best part of studying here has been to get to know a new group of great people from classmates to lecturers.
Winning this award has been a surreal experience, and I still haven’t quite convinced myself it’s actually happened! I feel grateful to everyone who has helped me with my studies during my time at college.
I’m now at the Ayr Campus doing my HND in Aircraft Engineering, with a view to working in the aircraft industry.
