Overview
This course is ideal if you want to:
- improve your understanding of why people behave or think in the ways that they do;
- develop your listening and counselling skills, and
- enhance your effectiveness when supporting others in the home and/or workplace.
If you have completed the Introduction to Counselling level 5 evening class you have already started this journey of discovery and should transition well to this more advanced course.

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but you should be able to demonstrate communication skills at level 6 and/or have achieved the Level 5 Introduction to Counselling course.
You should be non-judgemental and have a willingness to work with, support and empathise with others.
To aid selection please write a full and detailed personal statement in your online application from. This should provide background information explaining what has motivated you to apply for the course and what you hope to achieve from it.
Please be prepared to provide copies of your qualifications where requested.

Counselling skills can enhance your effectiveness in many social or work situations, potentially leading to improved relationships and promoted posts in the workplace.
More advanced counselling courses on offer at Ayrshire College include the HNC Counselling Course that is delivered two days a week from August to June , and the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills evening class that is also delivered from August to June or July.
