Why not consider a career in Civil Engineering.
Civil engineering is everything you see that's been built around us - roads and railways, schools, offices, hospitals, water and power supply and much more.

What is the course about?

Here's just some of what you'll be doing:

You'll develop skills in drawing, both by hand and and on the computer using AutoCAD software.
You'll become familiar with what a construction site looks like and how to go about setting it out.
You’ll learn about the different construction materials that might be used on site.
You’ll look at how a building is supported from the ground up.
You'll explore different building frames and structures, as well as how they are all connected together.
You'll carry out relevant construction practical tasks and visit various local building sites.

You will also have the chance to:
Speak to local Construction and Engineering professionals looking for Apprentices.
You can choose a Foundation Apprenticeship as one of your subject choices while still at school, it is the same level as a Higher and is recognised by universities as a relevant entry qualification. The course takes two years to complete, starting in S5 and finishing end of S6. .
A Foundation Apprenticeship (Group Award) in Civil Engineering includes:
A National Certificate in Civil Engineering (at SCQF Level 6)
At least one unit from the SVQ3 in Civil Engineering (at SCQF Level 6)

What are the entry requirements?

You should have or be working towards National 5 in Mathematics during S5. Your guidance teacher should think you can work at SCQF Level 6, the same level as a Higher qualification

How will I be assessed?

You will be able to apply the new skills you learn into practice through a series of written and practical assessments on an ongoing basis.
