This course is taking applications for waiting list only.

Our introductory course can teach you the essential skills and knowledge you need to work as a construction operative. You'll learn how to mix and lay concrete, build drainage systems, lay brickwork and block paving, reinstate paths and paving, level and set out sites, and operate small tools. You'll also gain a broad understanding of the construction industry and the different roles and responsibilities involved.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, you should have a basic understanding of English and maths. If you don't have formal qualifications but have life experience, we'll also consider you for a place on the course.

• Drainage
• Brickwork
• Block paving
• Reinstatement of paths and paving
• Levelling and setting out
• Small tools operation

When you've finished the course, you may have the opportunity to progress to one of our bricklaying courses, such as:

• Introduction to Bricklaying and Masonry Repair
• Pre-Apprenticeship in Bricklaying at SCQF Level 4
• Pre-Apprenticeship in Bricklaying at SCQF Level 5

Alternatively, you may be able to find direct employment in the construction industry as a construction operative.

This course is ideal for those who are interested in a career in construction but have no prior experience. It will give you the essential skills and knowledge you need to get started within the industry.
