Who is the course for?
This course is ideal for anyone who would like to go into a career in Accountancy. It could be the first step before progressing onto HND Accountancy the following year or it will also provide a good foundation for anyone wishing to progress onto university.
Accountancy isn’t all about academic qualifications though, as you can become professionally qualified in this area by completing professional qualifications such as AAT, CIMA or ACCA while working in industry. Your HNC can provide some exam exemptions within these professional qualifications, which is why this is a great starting point.
What is the course about?
- Recording Financial Information
- Cost Accounting
- Management Accounting using IT
- IT in Business: Spreadsheets
- Preparing Financial Statements
- Income Tax
- Using Financial Accounting Software
- Payroll
What are the entry requirements?
At least one higher at “C” pass or above.
How will I be assessed?
You will have time in class for assessments which will be a combination of open and closed book assessment task with one exam in May. There is some analysis work required in accountancy, it is not all about the numbers, and this skill is required more in the industry. There will be some report writing as you may have to make recommendations to clients following your number crunching.
What should I expect?
- HND Accounting

- modern or graduate apprenticeship
