Overview
This engaging course provides a comprehensive exploration of key concepts in human biology, preparing you for further study in science-related subjects and requires a strong commitment to independent study and revision.
Entry Requirements
It is recommended that students have an A/B at National 5 or A/B at Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade Credit or demonstrable prior attainment. However, students without any formal qualifications, but with life experience and a demonstrable interest in the subject area will also be considered for entry.
Course Content
The Higher Human Biology course consists of 2 full and 2 half units as shown below.
- Human Cells (1)
- Physiology and Health (1)
- Neurobiology and Communication (0.5)
- Immunology and Public Health (0.5)
Please be aware that this evening class is delivered at a fast pace to cover the course content in a shorter time than the time allocated in a school environment. Before commencing the course you should be prepared to commit to spending some time every week to study at home independently, to revise the course content, and to prepare for the next class.
Buying a Higher Human Biology textbook, to help you in your studies as per the lecturer’s instructions is strongly recommended.
SQA exams are expected to take place at the end of the course. These historically happen in May.
