Entry Requirements
For entry to the course, you’ll need:
- a real passion for photography, that you wish to develop full-time
- a portfolio of images that showcase a range of subjects, techniques and skills that you can discuss at the interview.
Other factors that could help strengthen your application: four National 4 qualifications or equivalent. Alternatively, a relevant NC course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent
If you don’t have formal qualifications but have life experience, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.
Course Content
This course provides you with a good foundation in capturing and editing both still and moving images. You’ll be taught by award-winning photographers, working to high standards and deadlines to help prepare you for the real world.
You’ll start with the basics, including:
- technical and creative aspects of using a camera, which could include the development of your skills in photographing both people and places. You may go on location for interior and exterior shots.
- learn the fundamentals of enhancing and manipulating digital images, developing skills in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Next Steps and Career Opportunities
After successfully finishing this course, you may have the opportunity to:
- move on to a Level 6 course, such as Photography or Film and Broadcasting
- exploring various career paths, including roles like Researcher, Runner, Editorial Assistant, TV/Radio/Film Producer, Video Content Producer, Social Photographer, Portrait Photographer, Press Photographer, Fashion Photographer, Corporate Photographer, or Photo Editor
With additional qualifications, you can progress to a degree program at institutions like UWS, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Stirling, Queen Margaret, or Edinburgh Napier Universities, as well as Edinburgh or City of Glasgow College, or Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen.
