Entry Requirements
For this course you’ll need:
- a genuine interest in engineering
- four National 5s or equivalent OR a relevant course at SCQF Level 5 or equivalent

Dive into a dynamic blend of practical work and theory, gaining the skills and knowledge for further study or employment. You may explore:
- basic maths and IT application: in an engineering context
- complex engineering workshop skills: including reading drawings, marking out, and manufacturing components to given specifications
- skills in complex engineering assemblies: covering mechanical fasteners, seals, and bearings
- proficiency in using conventional, manual machinery: like turning and milling units, progressing to CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining with basic programs and operations
- engineering dimension control: mastering a range of measurements on components
- skills in basic engineering design: understanding its relation to product design
- computer Aided Draughting (CAD): creating detailed, 2D engineering drawings and generating assembly drawings
- mechanical engineering principles: addressing systems and problem-solving involving work, energy, conservation of energy, and power
- enhance graphical engineering communication: producing engineering assembly drawings
- build essential transferable skills in communication, numeracy, ICT, teamwork, and problem-solving
- knowledge of engineering materials: quality, project management, and health and safety
