Entry Requirements

Candidates should have some prior knowledge of numeracy and communication to SCQF level 6, although formal qualifications may not be necessary if suitable experience had been gained informally or through work experience.

Course Content

  • Recording Financial Information: Develop your manual bookkeeping skills, using double entry bookkeeping skills up to trial balance as well as complete VAT Returns
  • Using Financial Accounting Software: Use SAGE software to process financial transactions and to prepare accounting reports for a small business
  • Preparing financial Statements:  Learn how to prepare financial statements for a range of business organisations – sole traders, partnerships, and companies. Develop your skills in preparing statement of cash flows and analyse accounting statements using ratios for a limited company

Next Steps and Career Opportunities

On completion of this course, you may:

  • progress to an HNC such as Accounting, Business, and Administration and IT.
  • build your qualification part-time towards a full HNC by undertaking further PDAs and/or HN units.
  • start a career as a bookkeeper or join the accounts department of various businesses.
