Entry Requirements

To apply for this course, you'll need:

  • a Level 4 qualification in woodwork/carpentry and joinery or demonstrate relevant trade experience
  • an interview and/or practical entry test

If you don't have formal qualifications but have a genuine interest in the subject, we will also consider your application.

Course Content

Explore practical tasks designed to develop the skills essential for a career in carpentry and joinery. This hands-on course covers:

  • developing practical hand skills: manufacturing timber joints to form complex frames
  • use of woodworking machines and power tools: to construct a timber door and staircase
  • understanding 'marking out' details: for carpentry and joinery items
  • working from workshop drawings: selecting materials, and using woodworking machines
  • exploring construction industry techniques: and focusing on health and safety aspects

  • site visit to a local building site: experience a live building site
