Entry Requirements
To apply for this course, you'll need:
- a Level 4 qualification in woodwork/carpentry and joinery or demonstrate relevant trade experience
- an interview and/or practical entry test
If you don't have formal qualifications but have a genuine interest in the subject, we will also consider your application.
Course Content
Explore practical tasks designed to develop the skills essential for a career in carpentry and joinery. This hands-on course covers:
- developing practical hand skills: manufacturing timber joints to form complex frames
- use of woodworking machines and power tools: to construct a timber door and staircase
- understanding 'marking out' details: for carpentry and joinery items
- working from workshop drawings: selecting materials, and using woodworking machines
- exploring construction industry techniques: and focusing on health and safety aspects
- real craft project: your chance to demonstrate your skills in a group project
- site visit to a local building site: experience a live building site
- essential skills: develop transferable skills, including communication, numeracy, and ICT.
