Entry Requirements
To apply for this course, you’ll need:
- a genuine passion and Production Arts in live entertainment environments
- A-C pass at National 5 in subjects related to Science, Technology, Engineering, or Maths
alternatively, a Level 5 college based qualification in a relevant field such as Sound Production, Acting and Performance, Music, or Art and Design - an interview with us
If you don’t have formal qualifications but have life experience, then we’ll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.
Course Content
Our Introduction to Production Arts at level 6 course is made up of SQA units as well as bespoke new units designed to immerse you in the practical aspects of production arts in preparation for the workplace. Here's a glimpse of what you may learn:
- scenic art and construction: expand your skills in creating captivating stage settings
- lighting design for performance: dive into the world of lighting, enhancing the theatrical experience
- stage sound and technology: master the art of creating immersive soundscapes
- research techniques: learn to explore and evaluate various production spaces and design styles
- digital audio workstations: discover the tools and techniques for recording and manipulating audio and MIDI signals
- stage management: develop organisational, leadership, and teamwork skills
- professional development: prepare for a career in production arts with industry-specific knowledge and skills
Throughout the course, you'll be working with industry-standard equipment and learning from experienced professionals currently active in the field. there will also be opportunities to work in conjunction with our acting students in productions on our Ayr Campus, as well as shadowing opportunities with professional set technicians and managers within the award winning Centrestage theatre venues in Kilmarnock.
Next Steps and Career Opportunities
This course is the only one of its kind in Scotland in that it allows you to learn and work in a professional venue whilst having the support of College Student Services provided at our Kilmarnock Campus. Many of our students will move on to HN Technical Theatre courses as well as the Royal Conservatoire Scotland.
Finally, as a highly practical course, it allows development of meta-skills as well as vocational skills that are highly sought after in the professional environment for Broadcasting, Theatre, Live Music venues, event management amongst others.
