Welcome to the exciting world of IT with Routes to Careers - IT! If you've completed the Connect to Careers course and have a keen interest in IT, this program is your next step. Whether you're aiming for employment or exploring further study options, this course is designed to help you succeed.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to individuals with additional support needs seeking preparation for employment or further studies.

 For entry you’ll need:

  • to have completed the Connect to Careers course at college
  • an interest in IT

There are no complicated interviews, just drop by for a chat and we'll guide you through it.

Course Content

During your 18 hours of weekly learning you'll:

  • look into IT and business: spending valuable time in the IT department
  • engage in meaningful projects: tailored to your interests, such as creating a magazine or running a breakfast club
  • develop essential life and work skills: including independence, confident communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, budgeting and decision making
  • strengthen core skills: communication, numeracy and ICT

Exciting practical activities include:

  • work experience in local shops
  • volunteering in the community with organisations like Coastwatch
  • building IT skills in Word, Excel and internet safety
  • exploring creative IT applications like games programming, multimedia and digital photography
  • investigating Scottish businesses or industries
  • participating in an "Apprentice" style competition
  • enjoying enriching trips to places like Kelvingrove Art Gallery
