Welcome to the SVQ Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) at Ayrshire College. In today's world, engineering is at the forefront of innovation, shaping everything from space exploration to healthcare. Entry Requirements
To join this course, you'll need:
- a genuine interest in engineering
- three National 3s or equivalent, preferably including Maths and English, or a relevant course at SCQF Level 4 or equivalent
- an interview with us, featuring an aptitude test.
Don't have formal qualifications? We also consider life experience too.
Course Content
In this course, you may:
- develop skills in producing components using hand fitting techniques
- utilise a range of hand and portable power tools for tasks like hand sawing, filing, drilling, and riveting.
- work on industrial size lathes to develop turning skills.
- learn basic welding processes, including Manual Metal Arc (MMA), Metal Inert Gas (MIG), and Metal Active Gas (MAG)
- gain expertise in working with sheet and plate metal.
- build transferable Essential Skills, like communication, numeracy, ICT, teamwork, and problem-solving
- enhance your IT skills, covering word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics
