Course Content
The course has excellent partnerships, working with the police, army, coastguard and fire service. You’ll make regular visits to the various services base locations, and hear from guest lecturers in the classroom to make sure you’re well informed in your specific area of interest.
Here’s just some of what you’ll be doing:
- Psychology - you’ll explore why understanding people and their motivations helps you form better working relationships.
- First Aid - you’ll learn how to react if you’re first on the scene of an accident.
- Health, Fitness and Wellbeing - in every uniform service you need to remain physically fit to be effective, so we’ll make sure you know how.
- Social Issues - conflict resolution is a key skill to develop, but you’ll start by learning how social issues affect communities.
- Engaging in the Community/Volunteering - you’ll gain real, on the ground experience of working within your community, for example with community, school and elderly groups, giving you the skills and social understanding required to offer the public a valued service.
- Outdoor Activities - for many uniformed services you need to be ready for anything, so you’ll hone your skills through activities like hillwalking and orienteering.
- Teambuilding - leadership is important but working together will get the job done, so you’ll develop your skills in teamwork.
- You’ll build transferable Essential Skills in meaningful contexts to help you become more effective in life, learning, and work. This could be communication, numeracy, ICT, working with others, and problem solving.
