    You will attend college on a Tuesday evening between 6.00pm and 9.00pm from August through to January.

Entry Requirements

If you are interested in working in youth work, community or related sectors this course could be for you. If you are already active in these sectors this course will help you to develop your skills, enhance your knowledge and provide opportunities to build up a supportive network with like-minded individuals. Successful candidates will achieve a nationally recognised SQA Qualification.

Ideally you will have Nat 5 Communication or equivalent and/or experience of working with young people, either in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Course Content

You will explore what youth work is, the principles that guide this work and the current issues that are affecting young people. You will understand the qualities and skills required of a youth worker including legislative duties; ethical dilemmas and how to make a positive impact for young people.

Your class will be a discursive and participative experience.

Next Steps

Successful candidates will have developed knowledge and understanding that will prepare them for employment and vocational qualifications in community development.

Where there is sufficient demand, successful candidates will have the opportunity to go on to achieve Youth Work: Engaging with Young People in semester 2 (evening class), and complete the National Progression Award (NPA) in Theory and Approaches to Youth Work at SCQF level 6.

Work in a voluntary or paid capacity in youth work , community or other relevant area will be the preferred outcome for some candidates.
