College students to vote online for their next Student President
The Ayrshire College Student Association’s election process for the Student President and Student Vice President positions gets underway from Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June.
Students at Ayrshire College will be able to place their vote for their preferred candidate online through their learning platform Moodle.
Five students are running for the two 2020-21 Student Association positions. These are:
- Lauren Howieson, Student Vice President
- Michael William Maguire, Level 4 Computing
- Mylene Moore, HNC Counselling
- William Nesbitt, Access to HNC Business
- Steven Oliver, NC Health & Social Care
The students’ manifestos have been promoted on Ayrshire College’s social media campaigns to help voters reach their decision.
In her manifesto, Lauren said: “It has been an absolute privilege to be your Student Vice-President over the past year and I am hoping to continue on with the work I am doing.
“If re-elected my main focus will be to continue with the fantastic work on mental health that the College and Student Association have committed to over the last few years.”
Michael said: “As Student President, I would continue to raise awareness of Mental Health and LGBTQ + in line with Ayrshire College’s policy, actively promoting awareness, engaging with students and organising events.
“I would love the opportunity to make change or better yet see what changes I could make to benefit student life.”
Mylene said: “Fun, fun, fun - that’s what I wanted to put in my manifesto!
“I have some big fundraising plans and I’ll listen to all for other ideas. I want to make college life fun - bring on the mischief, the chaos and the bizarre!”
William said: “I am a strong independent person that wants to improve the college experience for many students, not just the few.
“One of my goals as Student President is to improve the smoking areas. I also want to improve the canteen experience as the current seating plan does not work when the College is busy.”
Steven said: “If given this amazing opportunity, I will give the students across all campuses the representation and voice they deserve.
“I have a great passion for fairness and equality as well as promotion of mental health. This will be a huge focus with a goal to create and maintain a safe space for us all to feel free to express ourselves with an aim to snub stigma.”
The successful candidates will take up their positions on 1 August 2020.
