Hospitality students serve up major charity donation

Hospitality students at Ayrshire College have generously gifted over £2,000 to the Kris Boyd Charity.

The Kris Boyd Charity is a mental health charity set up in 2018 by the former Kilmarnock and Scotland footballer.

The charity has a close relationship with Ayrshire College through the College's #PassingPositivity mental health initiative, which involves HNC Coaching and Developing Sport students raising money during their end of year project.

Now students involved in the Salt & Barrel training restaurant in Kilmarnock, the Westerly training restaurant in Ayr, and Ayr students on the Level 6 Hospitality course have chipped in with a gratefully received donation of their own.

The total gift - £2,042.56 - combines the tips received by the students across the year, as well as a fundraising event at the Ayr Campus.

Kris Boyd has called the students' decision to forego their tips in favour of making a charitable donation "an unbelievable gesture".

He said: "The students’ generosity will make such a difference to so many. When you take into consideration how badly the hospitality industry has suffered during this most difficult of times, it is really an unbelievable gesture the students have made. A massive thank you to you all!”
