Ayrshire College students elect new Student Association team
Ayrshire College students have held their annual ballot to elect their 2021/22 Student President and Student Vice President of the Ayrshire College Student Association.
Voting took place across a full week on the students’ online learning hub, Moodle.
Ellie Jamieson, 19 from Ayr, has been voted in as Student President. Steven Oliver, 30 from Ayr, will continue in his existing Student Vice President role for a second term.
Ellie was previously a Student Ambassador, and said in her election manifesto: "As Student President, I aim to carry the goals of improving your learning experiences and allowing you to feel seen and heard. I want to bring more awareness to your mental health within and outside the college campus to ensure that you are having the correct help with the necessary tools, as I am aware of how overwhelming it can be."
Ellie and Steven will officially begin working together from 1 July 2021. Current Student President Lauren Howieson will finish up at the end of June. Lauren began working with the Ayrshire College Student Association in the Student Vice President position two years ago, before taking on the responsibilities of Student President for 2020/21.
Charlotte Mitchell, Student Association Advisor at Ayrshire College, said: "We look forward to welcoming Ellie to the team in her new role as Student President. It’s great that Steven is getting the opportunity to continue to build upon the successes of his first year, by returning for a second year. Steven will continue to deliver support to students through our Wear it on Your Sleeve Campaign and through the various clubs and societies on offer.
"I would like to take the opportunity to thank our outgoing Student President, Lauren Howieson, for her consistent dedication to making sure that students voices are heard and that they have the best possible experience here at Ayrshire College. From supporting student volunteers, such as the Wellbeing Champions and Ambassadors, to setting up and supporting the LGBT+ Students Group, Lauren has taken each challenge in her stride - through a particularly challenging time for students. Lauren has been a popular Student President with both students and staff and, through her role, has made friends from across the College sector.
"We wish Lauren every success in her future endeavours.”
