Ayrshire pupil presented with gifts for winning Ayrshire College artwork challenge
An Ayrshire pupil who won an Ayrshire College design competition has been presented with a special signed CD featuring his winning artwork.
Fraser Ferguson, 12 from Prestwick Academy, drew the artwork for Ayrshire College's charity single 'Don't Forget Who You Are', recorded by former Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall.
The single was written by Ayrshire College Music student Leah Batty for the College's mental health awareness campaign #PassingPositivity, with all proceeds going to the Kris Boyd Charity.
Former Kilmarnock, Rangers and Scotland footballer Kris Boyd's mental health charity has been heavily involved in the #PassingPositivity campaign since its inception in May 2019.
Both Jai and Kris were at Ayrshire College's Ayr Campus to present Fraser with his framed signed CD and CD cover. They also gifted Fraser a hoodie and a t-shirt with the #PassingPositivity message on it. Fraser was at the campus with his parents to collect his gifts.
For the second year running, Sport and Fitness students at Ayrshire College had to hold the #PassingPositivity events virtually, due to ongoing Covid-19 event restrictions.
This year they raised over £1,500 for the Kris Boyd Charity through the charity single, a 3,500 mile virtual charity trek - the distance from Kilmarnock, Scotland to Kilmarnock, USA - and a virtual sports quiz.
David Dougan, Sport and Fitness lecturer at Ayrshire College, said of the groups' efforts: “All the student events this year were such a massive success. The Passing Positivity message was spread to hundreds of students and staff throughout the College, as well as the wider community. The students gained so much real-life experience; carrying out presentations, creating promo videos and delivering the actual events, while helping such a worthwhile cause. The amount of money raised speaks volumes for the hard work and endeavour put in by them all.”
Kris Boyd, who set up the Kris Boyd Charity in 2018, said: "Once again the students of Ayrshire College have used their knowledge, skills and initiative to create a fantastic mental health campaign. I am grateful for everyone's donations but also the students' hard work and dedication that has gone into delivering their powerful message of 'It's okay NOT to be okay!'.
"I am proud to be working in partnership with Ayrshire College to deliver activities that bring many people together to raise awareness of mental health issues."
