Industrial Action - Updated on Wednesday 30 March
As you know, EIS-FELA recently balloted its members who have voted to participate in industrial action. Strike action took place last week on Thursday 25 March. This is a national strike which will affect all colleges and students across Scotland. Obviously, we hope that the dispute will be resolved quickly or that the EIS suspends the industrial action, however, we are currently advised that further strike action will take place on the following dates:
- Wednesday 31March, Thursday 1 April 2021
- Tuesday 20 April, Wednesday 21 April 2021
- Tuesday 27 April, Wednesday 28 April, Thursday 29 April 2021
- Tuesday 4 May, Wednesday 5 May, Thursday 6 May 2021
- Tuesday 11 May, Wednesday 12 May, Thursday 13 May 2021
Due to current Scottish Government guidance around Covid-19, the vast majority of students are learning online throughout the rest of March and in to April.
Some classes will go ahead on strike days and you will be told if this is the case by your lecturer. If your class is scheduled to take place, please make every effort to attend either online or in-person if you are attending the campus at present. If your class is not going ahead as scheduled, please continue to access your course materials through myLearning.
Services to support learning such as the LRC, Student funding and Student Services are unaffected by the strike action and will continue, in line with current guidance, to operate online. Students will be given an authorised absence for strike days and all funding will be paid for EMAs, bursaries, discretionary funds and childcare.
The College knows how much disruption to learning that you have already faced this year and how much worry it is causing you. We want to assure you that every reasonable effort is being taken to ensure that there is no disadvantage to you as a result of this industrial action, though to remind you that it is a national strike and so Ayrshire College is limited in the actions that it can take to resolve a national dispute.
