Students get their teeth into raising awareness during Mouth Cancer Action Month
Ayrshire College students raised awareness for Mouth Cancer Action Month 2021 across the College this week.
In a new partnership, Ayrshire College Oral Health students worked with NHS Ayrshire and Arran Oral Health Team as part of the month-long nationwide campaign, culminating in ‘Blue Wednesday’ on 17 November 2021 at the Kilwinning Campus.
For ‘Blue Wednesday’ students created awareness of the early warning signs and benefits of early detection of mouth cancer, with a social media campaign running a caption competition and quiz. Oral Health students manned stalls and lucky prize-winners picked up electric toothbrushes generously donated by NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
Oral Health Lecturer, Arlene Robertson said “This year is the first year that the NC Oral Health students and NHS Ayrshire and Arran Oral Health Promotion Team have worked together for the Mouth Cancer Action month campaign.
“It’s been a great opportunity for students to gain creative skills, work with each other and NHS staff and teams, but also put their newfound oral health knowledge to the test.
“A massive thank you to NHS Ayrshire and Arran Oral Health Promotion team for their support and hopefully this will just be the start of some great partnership working.”
