Ayrshire College set for Feel Good Festival
Ayrshire College has organised a mental health festival for its students at each of its main campuses to coincide with the start of the academic year.
The Feel Good Festival takes place on 30 August in Kilmarnock, 31 August in Kilwinning and 1 September in Ayr, in alignment with Freshers at the College.
The main aim of the Feel Good Festival is to encourage students to engage with college services and to promote positive wellbeing, highlighting specifically how this transfers to create a positive learning experience.
NHS GP, writer and broadcaster Dr Punam Krishan and Brian Costello, director of HeadStrong, have been lined up to deliver keynote speeches offering helpful tips and advice for supporting your own wellbeing.
The Feel Good Festival will run from 10am to 2pm, with the main speakers taking to the stage at 11:30am.
Elsewhere at the festival there will be sports activities, a gaming corner, street food, and fun photo booths. Students will also be able to enjoy sessions in yoga, including laughter yoga.
The Feel Good Festival has been organised by members of Ayrshire College’s Promoting Wellbeing Group. The Promoting Wellbeing Group includes a cross-section of College staff, the Student Association, the Mental Health Liaison Officer, the Alcohol and Drugs Liaison Officer, the Campus Police Liaison Officer and an NHS Ayrshire and Arran Health Improvement Officer.
Angela Sheridan, Head of Learning & Skills Hairdressing Beauty Therapy Complementary Therapies & Make-up Artistry at Ayrshire College, said: “The objective of the festival is to help us all connect and inject some fun into the start of term. The festival will have a Hawaiian vibe, and will run alongside Fresher’s Fayre in order to reach as many students as possible.
“The festival aims to connect and promote a whole host of wellbeing activities and support, while promoting the message that it's okay not to feel okay, that wellbeing is intrinsic to learning and is at the heart of what we do at Ayrshire, and that connecting with ourselves, each other and support services is key to personal success.”
