Ayrshire College students graduate at Kilwinning ceremony
HNC and HND graduates of Ayrshire College’s Kilwinning Campus celebrated their graduation at the Kilwinning Abbey Church, on Thursday 6 October 2022.
The event was the first time the College has been able to hold annual graduation celebrations in person since 2019, as a result of previous Covid restrictions. Graduation ceremonies are also planned for Ayr Campus graduates (13 October at Ayr Racecourse) and Kilmarnock Campus graduates (27 October at The Grand Hall).
Over 100 successful students celebrated the completion of their courses in front of family, friends, lecturers and invited guests at the Kilwinning Abbey church. The graduates were presented with a certificate to commemorate their college achievements and following the ceremony, enjoyed refreshments at Kilwinning Campus.
Student of the Year awards were also made to 12 students, from across all areas of the curriculum, and in addition, prizes were also awarded for Outstanding Achievement.
The 2022 Kilwinning graduation prize winners were:
- Student of the Year for Business and Computing, sponsored by SimpsInns: Glen Henry (HND Cyber Security)
- Student of the Year for Care, sponsored by North Ayrshire Council: Emma Norbury-Perrott (HNC Healthcare Practice)
- Student of the Year for Early Years, sponsored by Developing the Young Workforce Ayrshire: Cecylia Welc (HNC Childhood Practice)
- Student of the Year for Engineering and Science, sponsored by Ashleigh Building: James Snodgrass (HND Electrical Engineering)
- Student of the Year for Hairdressing, Beauty, Complementary Therapies and Make-up Artistry: Zara Loudon (HND Make-up Artistry)
- Student of the Year for Social Science, sponsored by Bellrock: Ewa Zebala (HNC Social Science)
- Student of the Year for Sports and Fitness, sponsored by Ayrshire Sportsability: James Dickson (HNC Sports Coaching and Development)
- Outstanding Achievement in Business and Computing: Gary Hewitt (HNC Computer Science)
- Outstanding Achievement in Care: Mary-Jane Vidal Burns (HNC Healthcare Practice)
- Outstanding Achievement in Early Years: Katelynne Stewart (HNC Additional Support Needs)
- Outstanding Achievement in Hairdressing, Beauty, Complementary Therapies and Make-up Artistry: Pauline Black (HND Complementary Therapies)
- Outstanding Achievement in Sports and Fitness: Cassandra Campbell (HND Applied Sport Science)
Angela Cox, Ayrshire College Principal, announced at the ceremony that the overall Student of the Year for the Kilwinning Campus, sponsored by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), was Zara Loudon, 20 from Kilmarnock, who graduated in HND Make-up Artistry.
Zara has always been an incredibly talented make-up artist who had to overcome personal challenges as she started college. Her lecturers commented that she has an ability to think outside the box and her makeup styles and techniques have gone from strength to strength.
Zara enjoys learning and also attended an additional evening course to help her practice and develop as a makeup artist. This year, as well as completing her course, she has worked on Evita at Glasgow King’s Theatre and has been involved in filming with Amazon.
Angela Cox, Ayrshire College Principal, said: “Today is about our students reflecting on the incredible learning journey they have been on and celebrating their achievements. Now that they are Ayrshire College alumni, I wish them all continued success in their lives and careers. I hope they embrace the opportunity they have been given and go on to be the best they can be. Congratulations graduates.”
