Ayrshire College will be a Warm Space for students this winter

Ayrshire College is trialling a warm space initiative over the next six weeks at every campus, opening its doors from 5pm to 8pm on select days and providing students with a hot meal, a warm drink, and the opportunity to socialise.

The College facilities will be available to students at Ayr’s Dam Park building and the Kilwinning Campus on a Tuesday evening, while the Kilmarnock Campus will be a warm space for students on a Thursday.

The offering of a hot meal during this trial period means any student at Ayrshire College can access three hot meals on these days just by showing their student card, as the College already provides students with access to a free porridge pot each morning and free soup at lunchtime every day.

Ayrshire College has emailed all students to make them aware of the warm spaces initiative, highlighting upcoming opportunities to watch films and play video games on campus. Shower facilities are available at the Kilmarnock Campus.

Talks from guest organisations offering support with mental health and money management are also planned to take place over the trial period, which runs until the Christmas break.

Elaine Hutton, Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Ayrshire College, said: “Ayrshire College is an inspirational place to learn and one where we support our learners to realise their full potential. Warm Spaces will offer further support to our learners during these challenging times. A special thank you to our suppliers, Barclays, the PRA Group, and our staff who have all contributed to delivering this initiative.”
