Digital skills taught at Ayrshire College to the ‘technologically terrified’
Ayrshire College is running a new evening course to help improve people’s digital skills.
The ‘Digital Skills - Technology for the Terrified’ course is aimed at people who find the digital age daunting. Recent research commissioned by Virgin Media 02 claimed that two-thirds of Scots feel stressed or anxious about a lack of digital skills.
Ayrshire College is looking to help people become more comfortable with the technology that has become part of everyday life.
The six-week course will show students how to utilise the main features of their smartphone, tablet or laptop, from sending an email, searching on the internet, or creating a letter and spreadsheet.
Throughout the course, students will be shown step-by-step how to do a range of tasks on their own device, in an easy-to-follow process. Students can bring in their own equipment or they can access an Ayrshire College computer.
Nuala Boyle, Head of Business Growth at Ayrshire College, said of the new course: “Everything is digitalised today from shopping to banking. Many people are feeling increasingly remote from the digital world, relying on family and friends and perhaps don’t know where to start. Be brave, take the first step, and let’s help boost your skills and confidence and get you connected.”
