New Chair appointed at Ayrshire College
Ayrshire College welcomes the appointment of Fiona McQueen CBE as the new Chair of the Board of Management.
Fiona has been a Non-Executive Board Member of the College for the past three years and since March 2022 has held the role of Interim Chair. Prior to this, Fiona was Vice-Chair of the Board of Management.
Fiona's career spans three decades of executive public sector leadership, primarily across the health system and latterly within the Civil Service. She was appointed as an Executive Nurse Director in 1993 and has held a variety of roles, including Chief Nursing Officer for the Scottish Government from 2015 to 2021.
In June 2021, Fiona was awarded a CBE for services to the NHS. She is also an honorary professor at the University of West of Scotland.
Fiona’s appointment is for a period of four years, with effect from 1 November 2022. In reaction to her appointment, Fiona said: “I'm thrilled to take up the role of Chair of the Board of Ayrshire College. The opportunities the College offers to students are life changing and of course our students make a real difference to our local economy when they’ve finished their studies.”
Angela Cox, Principal of Ayrshire College, said of the appointment: “I am delighted that Fiona McQueen has been appointed as Chair of Ayrshire College.
“Fiona’s experience and knowledge will be an asset to the board, college and sector as we look to the future of tertiary education in Scotland and Ayrshire College realises the exciting opportunities that are available to us through the Ayrshire Growth Deal and as one of the leading colleges in Scotland.
“I look forward to working with Fiona as we progress our strategic ambition.”
