Successful coffee mornings held by Ayrshire College students

Students at Ayrshire College from Professional Cookery and Hospitality courses and on the Diageo Learning for Life programme have been raising money for charity through a series of coffee mornings.

All money raised through the events will go to local charity Megan’s Space, chosen by the students involved. Megan’s Space was set up in 2020 in memory of Irvine’s Megan Copeland, providing young people with mental health support.

Visitors to Ayrshire College’s training restaurant could enjoy a takeaway barista coffee and freshly baked scones and cakes, with a minimum donation price set at £1.

Irvine company GMC Corsehill kindly donated takeaway coffee cups to Ayrshire College with the logo of Megan’s Space on it. Pure Roasters Coffee agreed to supply two blends of coffee beans – Patter Watter and Nae Faff Decaff – at cost price to the College’s Student Association team.

The tagline for the events was ‘It’s Time to Talk’, in reference to the charity’s aims.

Overall £149 has been raised so far with more events planned in the future.

Pauline Scott, Diageo Learning for Life Learner Engagement Officer, said: “It was apparent during Monday’s barista classes that talking was doing wonders for our Diageo Learning for Life students’ mental health. The thought process was to develop their barista skills and highlight to everyone within the college that taking ten minutes and chatting is a positive step in the right direction. We wanted to raise funds and create awareness that Megan’s Space is a local charity that can help young persons in need of support.”
