Ayrshire College students have the Golden Ticket at Film Festival
Ayrshire College showcased student productions recently at the Ayrshire Film Festival held in Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre.
Organised, promoted, and hosted by media students from Ayrshire College, the gold- themed event paid homage to Hollywood and included guest speakers, screenings, industry discussions and an awards ceremony.
What initially began as a small showcase festival for the ACTV media students at Ayrshire College, has gone from strength to strength, with over 200 attendees on the night.
Guest speakers at the event were screenwriter Neil Forsyth and Kieran Parker, founder of production company Black Camel Pictures. They both gave attendees an insight into the film and television industry in Scotland, with advice on getting a foot in the door and developing a career.
Attendees also got the opportunity to take part in a Q and A session with industry practitioners Damian Leitch and Nathan Clark, who provided insight from their combined experience spanning decades.
About her experience of the Ayrshire Film Festival, NQ Film and Broadcasting student Cara Beck said: “Our aim was to make it the biggest and best film festival yet and I think we did just that as everyone there seemed to really enjoy themselves!
“It took a lot of organising and hard work so it was great to see it pay off on the day! We built up relationships across the media department and learned valuable skills throughout the process that will be useful as we progress further into the creative industry. I am looking forward to continuing my studies at Ayrshire College next year with a place in the HNC Media Analysis & Production course.
“The experience as an organiser of the event and as an audience member was fantastic, I am looking forward to next year’s festival already, especially since I’ll be able to sit and enjoy it all as part of the audience!”
Media lecturer Vincent Mulligan was particularly pleased with the input of the experienced professionals: “It is great for our students to be able to get up close and personal with people who have that insight into the industry. Getting advice and input from such experienced practitioners is really valuable.
“There was great joy as the awards were picked up by the winners. The experience for all students will go a long way to providing them with the confidence in their filmmaking abilities and their event organising abilities too.”
The College’s media department has plans to expand the event next year and build on the success of the recent film festival.
