College students chosen for special recognition
Ayrshire College lecturers selected one student from their respective classes - who excelled during the academic year 2022/23 - to receive a special Excellence Award.
Students from non-advanced courses came together at ceremonies held at the Ayr (1 June), Kilwinning (7 June) and Kilmarnock (8 June) campuses to celebrate their achievements in front of their lecturers, college management, and fellow students.
The Excellence Awards are a real highlight of the Ayrshire College calendar, with more than 150 students this year earning the end-of-year reward for their hard work and dedication.
Ceremonies hosted by Ayrshire College Principal Angela Cox, Vice Principal Anne Campbell and Assistant Principal Elaine Hutton saw each student receive a certificate of excellence to rapturous applause from their peers.
The Student Experience team at each campus also singled out three worthy recipients of the Shining Star Award, given to a student they have worked with over the year who they believe has gone above and beyond with their studies.
The Shining Star awards were handed to:
Harry McLachlan at Ayr
Debbie Robinson at Kilwinning
and Jamie Lee Barrie at Kilmarnock.
Ayrshire College Principal Angela Cox told the students: “These events are always the highlight of our college year. We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students along with those of the wider college, and to reflect on the exceptional talent we have in Ayrshire.
“Your talent, commitment and determination to succeed, combined with the new skills and knowledge you have gained during your time at College are vital to the future prosperity and growth of Ayrshire, Scotland and beyond. We have some amazing, talented students at Ayrshire College and this is what we are here to celebrate today.”
Ayrshire College Vice Principal Anne Campbell said: “I am always so very proud of our students and constantly amazed by the stories of learners who have overcome significant challenges and difficulties during their time at college.
“Very often it is the support and encouragement of others that makes the difference.
“I would like to thank you, our students, for being here today, for being great ambassadors for Ayrshire College and most of all, for your hard work, dedication and tremendous achievements throughout the year. Well done and please accept my very best wishes for your future.”
